We,
in this case the Scandinavian Ladies, will have a participation game at this
year’s Gothcon, and this
time it will be Dien Bien Phu in 28mm scale and using the Chain of Command
rules.
Thomas is the grand master of DBP
and is in charge of everything, and I’m in the position of just following
orders. One of the orders is to paint some Viet Cong soldiers, and they are
bought and on their way (excellent stuff, that, as they can be used in pulp
games also)
|
Painting the brown fleece to get something that looks like a muddy and shot-up field. |
Another
order was get some terrain finished. The best way to do that is to have a
terrain-making-day and we chose a sunny and beautiful day to hole up in my cellar with MDF, filler, paint, fleece, foamboard, hot-glue gun, cork and whatnot.
|
The finshed thing, ready for some serious action. |
An
afternoon with a few tasty beers and without any burnt fingers got us (me, Thomas
and Henke) a finished ground-cover and some started rice-paddies and bamboo-groves.
|
Thomas hot-gluing foam-board sides to cork-sheets (the excellent and cheap AVSKILD cork place mat from IKEA) to form the outlines of a rice paddy |
|
Filler and a pre-paddy. |
|
And with some filler applied with a brush it starts to look interesting. Add a crater or two and we start to get an idea on what to expect. |
|
Bases for the bamboo-groves and also for stands of barbed wire |
Thomas
got the bamboo-not-groves-yet while I got to finish the rice-paddies. Stay
tuned for more on that soon.
I've started as well, using mainly old CD's and DVD's. Doing a rice paddy too though!
ReplyDeleteExcellent!
DeleteGood.
DeleteWe can hardly have enough rice paddies.
Picking up the bamboo bases tonight, then it's terrain time!
ReplyDeleteBamboo-bases and Space Hulk - an odd mix...
DeleteI suddenly have visions of playing a Predator-like scenario with Foreign Legion troops and genestealers!
DeletePics of the bamboo progress please. Haven't decided how to do mine yet.
DeleteWill do. Jocke had some good ideas that I shall try.
DeleteI always have good ideas!
DeleteGood, (pretty) good or (not very) good...
What a great start, looking forward to more updates chaps.
ReplyDeleteThanks, Michael
DeleteI'll mix more filler any day now and fix the last bases and then it will be paint-time
(amazing how much paint you can get for the price of two bottles of Vallejo)
Michael, Laffe has a new update on the project.

Looks very nice and matches the colours as seen on pictures! I'm painting up some French, one section plus completed (pictures on my blog soon-ish) and more have just arrived ;-)
ReplyDelete/K
Great
DeleteWe might actually be ready in time, with the usual mix of panic and panic...
Don't forget the panic, Jocke! ;)
DeleteDon't Jinx it!
DeleteI like that mate Joakim, I think doing your own table cover mate whatever you want to call it is the best way to go, because then you can build all the terrain to match it.
ReplyDeleteAll help to add to the feel of the game imo.
getting the colours right is one plus when doing everything yourself. I hope we amanage to get a coherent look. Not the easiest when we are several people working in different locations.
DeleteI put my efforts so far on my blog
