More painted figures

A bunch more figures finished the last month or so.
Muslim and Ottoman Civilians from Perry Miniatures
Istanbul Constabulary from Pulp Figures
A monster from Reaper, two Hybrid Deep Ones from RAFM and three Servants of the Deep from Cthulhu: Death May Die
A horse from Wizkids, two Wild West hobos from Black Scorpion and two 3D-printed seals from EC3D.
Gnolls from North Star
Now I'm finishing and painting a lot of all that 3D-printed stuff. More on that soon.

Painters block seem to have been truly gone

The painting low I had this autumn seem to be gone (for good?), as I have cranked out a lot of minis the last month.
First these gangers for use in our club campaign of Street Wars. They are the Black Cobras gang from the same manufacturer, and has seen two battles so far.
First game. The Black Cobras take on the Mollies, while trying to mug some pesky civilians.
A Mollie lookout

The uncultured and rather racist Devil Outcasts join the fun. For the Black Cobras this turned into a two-front war, which you usually don't win.
The cops stop eating donoughts and make an appearance. A Mollie is arrested, to the general merriment of two players.
The first was, ahem, a learning game for the gang (see above), but the second fight showed which gang of the four in that fight was the mightiest (the last roll of the last turn saw the Black Cobras go from a last place to the first. Truly heroic wasting of a knocked out enemy leader…)
Next we have some savages. The first two are Forest tribe women from Heroes of the Dark Age. Fantastic resin-figures but rather small at around 25 mm.
Then we have two taller heroes from Shadows of Brimstone, made of a horrible resin. In the background a portal from the same game, and a 3D-printed Kraken Idol from EC3D.
Last but not least is this rather diverse bunch. A serving woman from Wizkids, then a 3D-printed penguin from EC3D, a centaur (the best on the market in my opinion) from Heresy Miniatures, a 3D-printed zombie (I don’t remember the make, but I’m not too happy with it. Will have a higher resolution next time) and finally two giant rats from Reaper.
That’s it for now. Got a dozen or so Arabs nearly finished and lots more in the queue, both figures and buildings.

Gelatious Cube and victims

This Gelationous Cube is a Reaper Bones mini in three parts, two halves of the cube and a pile of victims.
The cube went together no problem and the pile fits well into the space for it, but being transparent you don’t really see anything of it.
So I painted the pile, with the idea that it could do double duty as treasure or dungeon dressing.
Well, to be honest, even if you’ve painted the pile you still can’t see it through the cube. It’s more like a darkish shadow in there. A bit disappointed about that, but now I at least have a pile of corpses and treasure to put somewhere in a dungeon.

Zombie Wolfs for Zombicide: Black Plague

This is a record for me! 25 minis painted in less than two weeks.
We play quite a lot of Zombicide: Black Death at the club, and, as I had the Wulfsburg expansion in the plastics mountain, I thought it would be a good idea to get those zombie wolves painted so we could get started on these new scenarios.
In the box are 21 zombie wolfs, of three different casts, and one large wolf abomination. There are also four heroes, but I haven’t started on them yet.
I painted the wolfs in my tried and tested winter-wolf scheme, which is fast and looks good enough.
When I was at it, I also finished two wolf zombies from Reaper and a wolf from the Shadows of Brimstone game. The zombies were rather nice but the resin Brimstone wolf really wasn’t. Their resin is crap, unfortunately.
Anyway, I’m really satisfied with how this turned out. Lots of painted minis in a short time and they look all right. What’s not to like?

Abigail from Rise of Moloch and an ordinary ghost

White… I always dread white. It’s bloody difficult to look convincingly white.
So I started with the ghost from Reaper. A white primer, Dark Tone wash and then heavy drybrushing with white.
It actually didn’t look too bad. Maybe white isn’t so difficult.
When I was half convinced that I could do a reasonable white I starter with Abigail Sutherland, one of the heroes of The World of SMOG: Rise of Moloch. She’s another stunning model, they all are.
I removed her from her internal base, cleaned up some mould-lines and repeated the ghost treatment and added colour here and there.
Ready for gaming with a ghost as a bonus.

Dungeon vermin from Reaper

Here we have a bunch of small critters from Reaper’s Bones range that I got from one of their kickstarters. Giant centipedes, beetles, ticks and a large Prairie Tick Queen.
A bit crude sculpts, especially the legs on the beetles and ticks, but good enough as vermin.
I think they will see action in my coming Paleo Diet: Eat or be Eaten campaign, which will se cave-men (or women) against dinosaurs and other historically correct adversaries :)

Dogs and more birds

I’ve been on vacation in the Stockholm Archipelago and without much of an internet connection. Back now in front of the computer, so it’s time for some regular posting.
First of is a bunch of animals that were finished just before we left for the summer place.
The two leftmost dogs are from Reaper and the right one is a Faithful Dog from Shadows of Brimstone.
The birds are a falcon from Reaper, owl from Otherworld (my favourite of the bunch), another Reaper falcon and a crow from Otherworld.
They will come in handy as background creatures, helpers or maybe “monsters”.

Birds, part 1 – Archaeopteryx, raven, vulture, owl and a hawk

It’s been a rather slow couple of weeks when it comes to modelling. I’ve been busy with work, gaming with the toys I have (What a Tanker has hit the table a couple of times, and it is a very fun game), the garden need a lot of attention, our summer-place got a leaky roof that needs taking care of and weather here is amazingly good - we have had a month of excellent summer in spring. So it’s been slow.
Anyway here is a little something. I was inspired by a blog-post on animals the other day and rummaged around in the mountain for some birds that I had already prepped. Some internet searches for photos of said birds as inspiration and I started.
These are the first ones finished.
Archaeopteryx. Okay, not a bird and no photos for reference, but they got wings and will certainly be aggressive in some game in the future. They come from Tamiya’s excellent 1/35 scale Mesozoic Creatures set (you will see much more of that here) and are twins as I bought two boxes.
The owl is from Mantic. I’m not sure from which sprue, though, but probably some elves. It’s a nice but not great little bird. It sits on branch from a sprue of some sort of living tree-thingies GW had way back.
A vulture and a raven from Reaper. The raven is so-so and very large, and I painted it more like a crow. I rather like the vulture. Both come from the Familiar Pack VIII.
Finally a hawk from Otherworld’s Lesser Familiars pack. It’s just a great little model, as usual from Otherworld.
More birds to come shortly, and even more in a little while (I seem to have made a little purchasing-mistake…it's all Koen's fault!)
Happy gaming and modelling!

A varied bunch of pulp figures and another SMOG-mini + Gothcon

Wild West Wizard of Oz Tin Man from Reaper, another civilian from Blue Moon and their Slice of Americana box and finally a Neobedouin Shaman from RAFM
I guess these will be the final minis this month.
Shamock the Great from SMOG: Rise of Moloch
You’ll find me at Gothcon this weekend, demoing Chain of Command. Please come by and say hello if you're here.
(This post should have gone live on Thursday, but I hit the wrong button. Just found out and posted it a bit out of ordinary sync)

Crypt from Reaper

I got this crypt from Reaper’s Bones III Kickstarter a while ago.
I wasn’t very impressed actually, as everything was rather smooth and the roof was probably supposed to be metal… not my cup of tea. Had to modify it a bit to be the way I wanted it.
Four strong magnets hold the base. Pretty impressive.
First I planted magnets in all corners of the crypt and in the base, so that I could use the base if I wanted to, or something else if that would be better.
Then I had to shave of a lot of plastic from the roof as I wanted it removable. Now it slots on and off.
The door is NOT wide enough to let a mini with a 25mm base through. That is rather stupid...
After that I got an idea and painted everything that I thought should be stone (including the roof) with Vallejo Oxid Paste to get a nice texture. I got a jar of that paste that I hadn’t used for anything, and this was a good reason to actually open it. Some of it got on the metal-parts but that wasn’t bad at all, as the texture would look like corrosion.
Then some wall-paint for the stone and AP Plate Mail Metal followed by a wash of AP Strong Tone.
Much better. Ready for some suitable undead tenants.

A bunch of pulp figures

Just finished this bunch of pulp minis. Two will come in handy as civilians, always nice as “scatter terrain” in a pulp adventure.
Two Mercant Sailors from Artizan Designs
I have plans for a pulp league for the young woman, and I’m sure the armed sailor will find a job in the seedier parts of a harbour.

Dean Roberts from RAFM and Wild West Wizard of Oz Dorothy from Reaper Miniatures, a Bones mini.

Blood Rage: Fenrir and two Reaper Bones wolves

Blood Rage is the next game I will paint figures for, and it’s really fun as the minis are just fantastic, the game’s got a great theme (who doesn’t like Ragnarök?) and it is without a doubt one of the best board-games I got.
I’ve already painted quite a few minis, but now I’m concentrating on finish everything for that game.
First of the new batch is Fenrir, one of the mythological monsters that you can recruit to your clan.
A huge miniature that turned out real well.
I painted two other wolves, both from the Reaper Bones range, while I was in wolf-mode. One is large, a worg or dire-wolf, while the other is two-headed.
The sculpts are okay, but really nothing more, and the two-headed one needed green-stuffing as there was a rather prominent gap where one of the heads were pre-glued to the rest of the body.
These two will join my expanding pack of wolf-kin.
