Painted minis

From Mythic Battles: Pantheon we have Infernal Hounds (painted last year) and Warriors, Heracles, Minotaur and Cerberus.
It’s been a bit quiet here the last couple of months, mainly because I was on a real painting low. Anyway, this x-mas I sat down with minis, paints and brushes and remembered how fun it was to paint.
Morrigan and Bob from Zombicide: Black Plague and a pack-horse (painted last year), make unknown.
So here we have what has been painted so far this year, and a couple of stragglers from the autumn.
Finally some Hastur Disciples from the excellent game Cthulhu: Death May Die

Zombicide: Black Plague – Thundergut and Merieil

The final two minis from the Special Guest Box: Naïade. The other two, Ostokar and Milo, were finished in June, and since then I have only painted two necromancers. It's about time we got more heroes to game with.
A drunk, one-legged dwarf and kick-ass elf – they will bash zombies soon at the club.

Now for something completely different:
About a month ago I found a real pearl of a blog, Vagabond’s Wargaming Blog, and it has become one of my favourites, as it is full of very good AARs. Really very good! Well written with beautiful terrain and minis, what’s not to like? I’ve been very inspired by it.
It’s just a couple of months old and has far too few followers, so I think you should pop over, have a look, and if you like what you see, then follow.
Thank you for a great blog, John!

Welcome Google+ follower Team i-Lovecraft, maker of wonderful 3D-printable terrain.

Castle Ravenloft game all painted!

Everything painted and ready for a game.
So I painted the final figures for Castle Ravenloft boardgame at last! With that, it is all finished and it will be great fun to finally play a game with a fully painted set.
The final, rather lame, figures - a dwarf cleric, elf wizard and finally the vampire, Count Stradh. This mini is such a lame arch nemesis. I certainly expected a more frightenigh and dynamic mini of this legenday foe. (Yes, I've DM:ed the original adventure. It was great, especially when when of the players said. "Hey, guys... I don't think we're the hunters here...")
The dracolich. Another not so great mini. It's huge but... well, it's done.

Hyrekia, Half Elf Sorceress from Reaper and a short Gothcon review

Another Reaper figure, this time Hyrekia, sculpted by Werner Klocke.
She’s a metal mini that’s been in the tin-mountain for far too long, which is a shame as it is a really nice figure.
On the painting table now are the remainder of the Castle Ravenloft figures, a few more assorted fantasy minis, the last Black Scorpion western minis and some western buildings. I’m hoping to have the Ravenloft game all painted and have a game or two, and also to have most of my western-stuff ready for a game of Dead Man’s Hand soon.
After that I think there will be lots of Dust, as I had a demo-game of Dust 1947 at Gothcon this weekend and it felt really good (thanks for the demo, guys!). I’ve got my Dust-mojo back and that will be prioritized now. I’ve already ordered the new rules and will pick them up at Alphaspel today, hopefully.

Gothcon was great (as always) and we tried a lot of new games. The weekend started with a game of Hjärnor (Brains), a game I’ve seen there over the years and wanted to play. This time we were there when the con started and were the first bunch to get a game in. Great fun!
Three of our four heroes in their first mop-up. My charcter; Malin, armed with a shotgun and a saw, in close combat with a zombie. Jörgen, our wannabe Elvis, coming to the rescue  wirh his guitar and handgun (which will soon run out of ammo) and  Anna wields her chainsaw and handgun with great skill.
Two more heroes, Sigge and  whateve-his-name-was, being ambushed by a bunch of no-good undead.
Our mission was to get out of town (with bikes or cars) and kill many zombies. With 30 killed we would get a major victory and we kept tallying them up. Here we're in one of the houses trying to find car keys and Malin finds them while Jörgen is found by a zombie.
Everyone to the VW van!
We just have to kill a few more zombies before we fl... retreat.
Just a few more to reach 30 killed zombies...
Just two more....
Finally, we kill the last one, jump into the van and make our escape. A total victory as all our characters are unwounded!

Silas and more zombies for Zombicide: Black Plague

The final hero of the boxed set, the elf archer Silas, is finished.
I've tried to paint him close to the illustrations to be able to identify him easily on the gaming table. That has been a really enjoyable exercise.
Another set of zombies are also done. Runners this time.
Only the necromancer and 25 zombies left and the Zombicide: Black Death box is done.

Female elf archer from Reaper and female half-orc assassin from Otherworld

The female elf archer comes from the Reaper Bones II kickstarter is a rather nice little figure (but her nose was rather flat and probably miscast), she is called Allistrilee, Elf Archer and is sculpted by Bobby Jackson (Bones 77205 or Dark Heaven Legends 03166).
She got a more impressionistic paintjob as I’m trying out a couple of new techniques and she volunteered J. Decent result.
This is DAD17 Female half-orc assassin from Otherworld’s Dungeon Adventurers series and sculpted by David Soderquist. Another great figure from Otherworld that is suitably dressed and equipped.

Nimrodel from Mithril

This is M209 Nimrodel from the The Elves of Lorien range from Mitril. Another beautiful miniature from their range.
I painted her dress with Citadel Foundation Mordian Blue with a drybrush of Citadel Ice Blue. Belt etc painted white. Jewelry Vallejo Game Color 56 Glorious Gold highlighted with silver.
Her face looks strange in this magnification but it does look better in 28mm J

28mm Gray Elf Duelist

This is a Gray Elf Duelist, sculpted by Paul Muller, from the Ravilla faction of WoTC’s Dungeons & Dragons Chainmail miniatures game.
Another unusual sculpt, and it could be used as a monk or martial artist character. It’s an interesting two piece figure, but rather flat, as you can see.

Liralith – a dark elf in 28mm from Hasslefree

This is the HFE005 Liralith Reduox figure from Hasslefree. One of my favourite companies, been with them from the beginning.
I’m not too happy about how this figure turned out, the colour of her clothes and her lips just didn’t turn out the way I hoped. But this is what you’ll get.

Boots/tights – Citadel Foundation Fenris Grey

Dark elf priestess in 28mm

This is, I think, a dark elf from Games Workshop’s Warhammer line. But I’m not totally sure, and I don’t know the name of the miniature. (She's a Dark Elf Beastmaster - Thanks to Dave for the correct name)
It has a history like so many other figures… it’s been in the tin-mountain for a long time.
Anyway, it turned out very well, and I especially like the skin tone. I’m very happy about that!

Nienna, female elf ranger in 28 mm by Reaper

A lovely model that has spent too long a time in the tin mountain.
Nienna, number 2909 in the Dark Heaven Legends series, is sculpted by Werner Klocke. It is marketed as an elf, but works just as well as a human in my opinion. I pinned the separate sword-arm to get a strong bond.

Paints used (Vallejo unless otherwise noted):
Cloak - 886 Green Grey
Skin – 955 Flat Flesh
Shirt Body – 881 Yellow Green
Metal on bow, sword, brooch, quiver – Citadel Dwarf Bronze
The above washed with Army Painter Soft Tone ink

Pants – 983 Flat Earth
Quiver – 876 Brown Sand
Hair – 818 Red Leather
Leggings – 940 Saddle Brown
Washed with Citadel Devlan Mud

Shirt arms – 890 Reflective Green

28mm Nymph from Otherworld

The nymph is one of the few monsters in the AD&D 1st edition Monster Manual that didn’t have an illustration. The reason: “Looking at one will cause permanent blindness undless the onlooker save versus magic. If the nymph is nude or disrobes, an onlooker will die unless a saving throw versus magic is successful.”
This nymph is from Otherworld set WE2 Dryad, Nymph & Sylph. A lovely little model. The problem with this figure is … if it is really well painted you risk permanent blindness. Thankfully Otherworld hasn’t made a nude version…
Anyway, paints used (Vallejo unless otherwise noted):
Flesh - 003 Pale Flesh, with a wash of Army Painter Soft Tone Ink and drybrushed with Pale Flesh.
Dress – 975 Military Green, drybrushed with 850 Medium Olive
Belt – 850 Medium Olive drybrushed 885 Pastel Green
Shoes – 843 Cork Brown
Hair – Coat d’Arms 235 Horse Tone Brown, washed with Army Painter Dark Tone Ink.

28mm Wood Elf Ranger from Chainmail/WotC

This figure, sculpted by Paul Muller, was two-part, with the second part obviously the left-hand hand-axe. That needed pinning, but it was easy. A good sculpt, if somewhat two-dimensional. The figure is used as a commander in the AD&D-based Chainmail skirmish game (RIP) from WotC.
I decided to paint him as a heavily armoured fighter instead of a ranger, that is, metal armour instead of leather.
Paints used (Vallejo unless otherwise noted)
Armour – Citadel Chainmail
Wood – Panzer Aces 310 Old Wood
Cloak, inside – 913 Yellow Ochre
Cloak, fur – 987 Medium Grey
Leather – 843 Cork Brown
Flesh – 955 Flat Flesh
Washed with Army Painter Strong Tone ink
Hair – Coat d’Arms 223 Horse Tone Chestnut with a wash of Army Painter Dark Tone ink.
