Zombicide: Black Plague – Thundergut and Merieil

The final two minis from the Special Guest Box: Naïade. The other two, Ostokar and Milo, were finished in June, and since then I have only painted two necromancers. It's about time we got more heroes to game with.
A drunk, one-legged dwarf and kick-ass elf – they will bash zombies soon at the club.

Now for something completely different:
About a month ago I found a real pearl of a blog, Vagabond’s Wargaming Blog, and it has become one of my favourites, as it is full of very good AARs. Really very good! Well written with beautiful terrain and minis, what’s not to like? I’ve been very inspired by it.
It’s just a couple of months old and has far too few followers, so I think you should pop over, have a look, and if you like what you see, then follow.
Thank you for a great blog, John!

Welcome Google+ follower Team i-Lovecraft, maker of wonderful 3D-printable terrain.

Castle Ravenloft game all painted!

Everything painted and ready for a game.
So I painted the final figures for Castle Ravenloft boardgame at last! With that, it is all finished and it will be great fun to finally play a game with a fully painted set.
The final, rather lame, figures - a dwarf cleric, elf wizard and finally the vampire, Count Stradh. This mini is such a lame arch nemesis. I certainly expected a more frightenigh and dynamic mini of this legenday foe. (Yes, I've DM:ed the original adventure. It was great, especially when when of the players said. "Hey, guys... I don't think we're the hunters here...")
The dracolich. Another not so great mini. It's huge but... well, it's done.

Samson the Dwarf, abomination and more zombies from Zombicide: Black Plague

More painted figs for Zombicide: Black Plague boardgame.
Samson the Dwarf put on a clear base from Sally 4th.
I tried to stay close to the illustration, as that will make it easier to identify the mini on the gaming board.
The Abomination, a super-zombie that is nearly impossible to take out.
Same thing here, I tried to stay close to the illustrations.
Five fatties finished
And another five regular zombies. One of them got a miscast hand, but that doesn't really matter.
They are all off for a game tonight.

On another note, you can see some of my ships and boats in Wargames, Solders & Strategy issue 83, where club-chap Michael Leck (aka Dalauppror) let 1980’s Swedish forces battle it out with Soviets in “Whiskey on the Rocks” (a true incident that could have turned very sour indeed).

Welcome Oliver Jaeger (no blog I could find – if you have one then put a link in the comments below, please) and El Grego with blogs The Pewter-Pixel Wars (a bit about everything gaming), Mini Ship Gaming (just what it says on the tin, from fantasy to modern) and Threwdish Ways (a project, I think, with monsters, muskets and whatnot). Go check them out and see if they are for you!

Female Dwarf and Gnome Fighters from Otherworld

Gnome and Dwarf female fighters from Otherworld
Another couple of great female adventurers from Otherworld Miniatures.
They are dwarfed by the human fighter. They should be, I guess.
The female dwarf is really small, even compared to other dwarves. A bit to small in my opinion.
DAD13 - Female Dwarf Fighter on a clear base from Sally 4th.
She even got sensible gear. I do like the Otherworld adventurers.
DAD16 - Female Gnome Fighter
Equipped for a week of spelunking.
Welcome follower The Wilde Goose with blogs The Wilde Goose (about walks, games and battles in Bohemia) and Prague Wargamers (about the Prague Wargames Club). Check them out!

Blood Rage – Soldier of Hel

What would a game be without a zombie?
This is the closest thing to one you’ll get from the Blood Rage boardgame. Hel is part of the underworld, some sources says it is where evil men go when they die (instead of Valhalla) and this Soldier of Hel is probably one of these men.
A decent sculpt but nothing special.
As a bonus you’ll get a Dwarf Chieftain also. One of my least favourite minis from the game and I’m not at all satisfied with how he turned out. Ah, well, he is painted and that’s that.

Dwarf Girl from Scibor

I bought this resin figure from Scibor a couple of years ago. She was originally armed with a short sword but I changed that to a war-hammer from Otherworld.
I started it a long time ago and it has just stood there on my painting table getting a bit of paint now and then and just finished it. Lost my notes on paints used, so the pics are what you’ll get.
I rather like the grey tones. Suitably dwarvish.

Dwarf Scorcher from Chainmail/WotC

Another 28mm figure from the Chainmail skirmish game, long since gone. This one is a dwarf scorcher, a guy armed with a fire-bomb, sculpted by Roy Eastland.
Great little figure, full of character and unusual, to say the least. I really like the Chainmail figs, sad they are gone.
Paints used (Vallejo unless stated otherwise):
Skin – Citadel Dwarf Flesh, drybrushed with 004 Elf Skintone (what an insult to a proud dwarf!) and another drybrush with 955 Flat Flesh after the wash.
Lower Lip – Citadel Dark Flesh
Beard – Coat d’arms 235 Horse Tone – Brown
Leather coat – 843 Cork Brown
Leather – Formula P3 Bootstrap Leather and Gun Corps Brown, Humbrol 62 Leather.
Armband and clasp – 59 Hammered Copper
Bomb – 912 Tan Yellow

Everything got a wash of Army Painter Strong Tone.

28mm Dwarf Fighter from Otherworld

This is DAD1 Male Dwarf Fighter from Otherworld.
Paints used (Vallejo unless noted)
Metal – Gun Metal with P3 Armor Wash
Backpack – P3 Bootstrap Leather
Pouch – 874 Tan Earth
Belt – 940 Saddle Brown
Wood – 843 Cork Brown
Beard – Coat d’arms 235 Horse Tone Brown
Handles – 876 Brown Sand
Everything except metal got a wash of Citadel Devlan Mud.
Not one of my best…
He’s a bit small, compared to some of my other dwarves.

Dwarf Mercenary in 28mm from Otherworld

Another figure from the Otherworld Indiegogo. You can find it under ‘Henchmen & Hirelings’ as HH03a.
You can also find some other lovely figures in the shop, like the Female Characters and Henchmen & Hirelings, either as a pack or as individual figures. You know, those packs we pledged for on Indiegogo a year ago, and still haven’t received. Do I sound bitter? You bet I am. There is just so much wrong here. A company I have always held to high regards, and now they are just ignoring some of their most loyal customers. Delays are one thing, but this is ridiculous. If only we could get honest information, or any information. A crowd-funding campaign that leaves me furious, I’m afraid. It’s such a pity, as their products are great, and previously their service has been good. Oh, and I'm one of the lucky ones, I've got the first half. I can imagine what the poor blokes that still haven't gotten anything yet thinks.
Enough of the rant, to the figure:
Paints used (Vallejo unless noted)
Armour – Formula P3 Bootstrap Leather and edging 984 Flat Brown
Shirt and trousers – Citadel Foundation Charadon Granite
Boots, gloves, scabbard and flat pouch/case – 875 Beige Brown
Handle on warhammer – 843 Cork Brown
Handle on sword – 862 Black Grey
Hair and beard – 940 Saddle Brown
Belt and eye-patch – 921 Light Brown
Belt-buckle - 56 Brassy Brass
Pouch – 987 Medium Grey
Everything washed with AP Strong Tone.
Base – 821German Camo. Beige + AP Dark Tone + drybrushed with 821
The base comes with the set, as is the self-adhesive felt that I should have applied after I was finished with painting the base…

All in all a very nice figure.

Dwarf female fighter from WotC

I’m really enjoying fantasy figures now, as a break from WWII. I got a box of lovely figures from Otherworld the other day, and they will soon hit the painting table. But still some figures that I will have to finish before then.
Attack!
This 28mm figure is from the long-dead Chainmail skirmish-game from Wizards of the Coast. I really  like the pose.
Skin Vallejo 927 Dark Flesh, hair 981 Orange brown. A coating of Army painter Strong Tone and matte varnish.
