Werebears from WotC and Reaper

Here are two werebears for the collection.
The first one is Reaper Bones. Really nice mini with a slightly aloof stance. Few mould-lines and easy to prepare.
The second one is from WotC’s Chainmail game that lived for a year or so until it died some ten years ago. I traded this one, the Werebear Trooper, and an Ogre Penitent, for a bunch of other minis a while ago. A real find as I’ve been on lookout for both for a long time indeed.
There was a bit more cleaning on this as it is metal, but really not much.

Very satisfied with these.

Castle Ravenloft game all painted!

Everything painted and ready for a game.
So I painted the final figures for Castle Ravenloft boardgame at last! With that, it is all finished and it will be great fun to finally play a game with a fully painted set.
The final, rather lame, figures - a dwarf cleric, elf wizard and finally the vampire, Count Stradh. This mini is such a lame arch nemesis. I certainly expected a more frightenigh and dynamic mini of this legenday foe. (Yes, I've DM:ed the original adventure. It was great, especially when when of the players said. "Hey, guys... I don't think we're the hunters here...")
The dracolich. Another not so great mini. It's huge but... well, it's done.

Howling hag and other Ravenloft minis + Hellknight

Here’s the Howling Hag from the Ravenloft game. A not too bad mini, that might see action in other games also.
Next up are Allisa, a female ranger, and Arjhan, a dragonborn fighter. Rather uninspiring sculpts that I really just wanted paint on. Not my best…
Well, it certainly looks better with paint than without.
Just a few more minis and that game is finished. Unfortunately, those same figures are not the funniest of the bunch. They’re all on the painting table, though.
Finally Hellknight, Order of the Nail, sculpted by Bobby Jackson and from my mini-mountain of Reaper Bones figures.

Not the most fantastic of minis, but very fast to finish. Just a couple of different metals and browns followed by a black wash. Done in no time, really, and, to be honest, I finished him just to get a fast dent in the mountain.
I needed that as the last month has been very slow miniatures-wise.

Human Rogue and Blazing Skeletons from Castle Ravenloft

I found Kat, Human Rogue, one of five heroes from the Castle Ravenloft boardgame, in the plastics-mountain the other day.
In dark blue plastic she didn’t look much, but when I started to actually check her out it turned out that she’s a rather dynamic character.
Some paint and she turned out real well.
After that I collected the rest of the unpainted minis from that game, and they turned out to be just a handful. Might as well get them all painted so I have that game finished.
The first to be done were the blazing skeletons. They really looked like transparent blue blobs as they were, but with some paint they look much better.

Unpainted blazing skeleton (without integral base)
Now I only have four more heroes, a vampire and a howling hag, and the game is all painted.

Wolfs, Dire Wolves and a werewolf

I’ve had these wolf-kin on my painting table for at least a year. They were primed white and had a black wash and waited for some proper painting. I looked at a lot of photos of wolves and… well, they are rather difficult to paint as their coats are grey-brownish and not uniform. So the minis sat there waiting.
Warg from Reaper
Dire Wolves from Otherworld
The other day a saw a pic of a wolf in winter-dress and that did it for me. I could paint my wolves for Frostgrave! Their winter pelts still have greys and browns in them and I got this by washing the minis with several coats of Army Painter Strong Tone and Dark Tone inks. Drybrushed white. Snouts black and also inside of ears and mouths/lips. (One of the wolves were previously painted dark grey and I washed it with Strong Tone and drybrushed)

Wolves from Castle Ravenloft
The two slender Dire Wolves are from Otherworld (Wilderness Encounter series, WE8b, sculpted by Jo Brumby) while the other one is Reaper (Dark Heaven legends 03490 Warg by Jason Wiebe or plastic Bones 77202). Wolves and werewolf from the Castle Ravenloft boardgame.

Kobolds from Castle Ravenloft, Håtunaleken and more

First a couple of pictures on the newly painted Kobolds from the Castle Ravenloft boardgame. I prefer my kobolds in the classic style as I’m an old school D&D player so these will serve as reptilian infantry instead. Ordinary boardgame minis quality wise and they got a fast paint job.
Skin – Vallejo 879 Green Brown
Metal – 863 Gunmetal Grey
Wood – 843 Cork Brown
Leather – 984 Flat Brown
Eyes – 984 Golden yellow with black slits
Washed with Army Painter Strong Tone ink and finally a coat of matte varnish.
I’ve got a lot of different minis on the table at the moment. Wolfs in different forms from several companies, the heroes from Brimstone, a couple of Rackham orcs and a German Dust-squad. You’ll see them all here soon (or not too soon, you never know).

I fell for the Conan Kickstarter halfway through it. It just proved too spectacular a deal. I did however manage to stop myself overindulging and just pledged for the basic Barbarian Pledge. So now I’m waiting for The Complete Chronicles of Conan that I ordered a couple of days ago. Should keep the Conan-itch satisfied for a while.
The set up. Good guys on the right with my troops closest to the camera.
I’m in the process of joining a local gaming club, Little Wars. The webpage is brand new and there you can find out what has happened at the club and also links to the various very good blogs made by some very talented members of the club.
My brave knights attack
At an ordinary meeting earlier in this week we had a big game of Lion Rampant with the in-club campaign Håtunaleken. Great fun even though my borrowed units (played them together with Mikael who tought me the rules) were utterly destroyed during the fight.
My troops before the fights...
Meanwhile a battle on the other side of the board
Welcome follower Black Powder with Black Powder Games from Little Wars. We had a great game of Chain of Command at the club last week. I unfortunately forgot my camera so no pictures and no AAR (We both took a severe beating and called it a draw when it was time to leave.)

My troops have disappeared somehow but assistance is on its way.
And a hearty welcome to follower Fabio Vollono. If you have a blog of your own then put a link to it in the comments below so I can link to it here.

Undead from Castle Ravenloft Boardgame

I was looking through the tin- and plastics-mountain the other day and found a bag of plastic miniatures – the remaining minis from the Castle Ravenloft boardgame that I still haven’t painted. I intend to finish all board-game minis before the next one hits me, and that means Ravenloft and Brimstone are moving to the painting table.
First the undead cannon fodder.
All were blockpainted with whatever I had handy and washed with Army Painter Strong Tone Ink.
Zombies – skin painted with Vallejo 884 Stone Grey
Ghouls – skin 971 Green Grey

Skeletons - bone white obviously. Shields where also drybrushed with 863 Gunmetal Grey to get a worn look.
The zombies actually saw action this weekend as substitute Hungry Dead in a game of Shadows of Brimstone. We, an Indian Scout and an Outlaw, managed the 'For a Handful of Darkstone' scenario and came away with a lot of loot. Great fun!

Hellshrieker

I found this in a bargain bin many years ago and it sedimented into the bottom of the tin and plastics mountain and laid there, forgotten. Found and retrieved now.
It’s a Hellshrieker from Wizards’ Dreamblade pre-painted miniatures range. Originally with a square base but I sawed that off and used one of my 25mm crystal clear Sally 4th bases instead.
Repainted in different pinks and rotting flesh tones, washed with Citadel Baal Red and lightly drybrushed with Formula P3 Thrall Flesh. Teeth Bone White with Army Painter Strong Tone wash. Finally a coat of gloss varnish.
Icky thing, looks like a mound of intestines. Will probably see action as a Cthulhu monster or maybe in a game of Open Combat.
Sweet dreams...

Dwarf Scorcher from Chainmail/WotC

Another 28mm figure from the Chainmail skirmish game, long since gone. This one is a dwarf scorcher, a guy armed with a fire-bomb, sculpted by Roy Eastland.
Great little figure, full of character and unusual, to say the least. I really like the Chainmail figs, sad they are gone.
Paints used (Vallejo unless stated otherwise):
Skin – Citadel Dwarf Flesh, drybrushed with 004 Elf Skintone (what an insult to a proud dwarf!) and another drybrush with 955 Flat Flesh after the wash.
Lower Lip – Citadel Dark Flesh
Beard – Coat d’arms 235 Horse Tone – Brown
Leather coat – 843 Cork Brown
Leather – Formula P3 Bootstrap Leather and Gun Corps Brown, Humbrol 62 Leather.
Armband and clasp – 59 Hammered Copper
Bomb – 912 Tan Yellow

Everything got a wash of Army Painter Strong Tone.

28mm Zombie Dragon by WotC

Another miniature from the Castle Ravenloft boardgame - a zombie dragon. I checked my Monster Manual an identified the remains as a former white dragon. I wasn’t totally sure how to zombiefy it, but it turned out okay I think. Anyway, it is much better than unpainted J
Paints used:
Skin – Formula P3 Thrall Flesh
Flesh – Vallejo 944 Old Rose
Claws, fangs and bones – Vallejo Bone White
Scales – Vallejo 820 Off White
Washed with Army Painter Strong Wash
Drybrushed with Off White

Welcome follower Dehewes. If you have a blog, then put a link in the comments below.

This guy is huge!

Stitches – P3 Bootstrap Leather
Lips – Citadel Dwarf Flesh
Metal – Vallejo 863 Gunmetal Grey

Everything got a wash of Army Painter Strong Tone

Kobold sorcerer/snakeman from WotC

Yet another figure from the Castle Ravenloft Boardgame. This time one of the evil villains, a kobold sorcerer.
That’s what it says, but when I started to work on the miniature, it looked more like a snakeman. The head, posture and the tail and body seen at the feet.
Anyway, did a quick and easy paintjob on him
Skin – Vallejo 879 Green Browy
Robe – Citadel Vomit Brown
Ribbons – Citadel Scab Red
Armour – Vallejo 865 Oily Steel

Washed with Army Painter Strong Tone wash.
