Painters block seem to have been truly gone

The painting low I had this autumn seem to be gone (for good?), as I have cranked out a lot of minis the last month.
First these gangers for use in our club campaign of Street Wars. They are the Black Cobras gang from the same manufacturer, and has seen two battles so far.
First game. The Black Cobras take on the Mollies, while trying to mug some pesky civilians.
A Mollie lookout

The uncultured and rather racist Devil Outcasts join the fun. For the Black Cobras this turned into a two-front war, which you usually don't win.
The cops stop eating donoughts and make an appearance. A Mollie is arrested, to the general merriment of two players.
The first was, ahem, a learning game for the gang (see above), but the second fight showed which gang of the four in that fight was the mightiest (the last roll of the last turn saw the Black Cobras go from a last place to the first. Truly heroic wasting of a knocked out enemy leader…)
Next we have some savages. The first two are Forest tribe women from Heroes of the Dark Age. Fantastic resin-figures but rather small at around 25 mm.
Then we have two taller heroes from Shadows of Brimstone, made of a horrible resin. In the background a portal from the same game, and a 3D-printed Kraken Idol from EC3D.
Last but not least is this rather diverse bunch. A serving woman from Wizkids, then a 3D-printed penguin from EC3D, a centaur (the best on the market in my opinion) from Heresy Miniatures, a 3D-printed zombie (I don’t remember the make, but I’m not too happy with it. Will have a higher resolution next time) and finally two giant rats from Reaper.
That’s it for now. Got a dozen or so Arabs nearly finished and lots more in the queue, both figures and buildings.

Painted minis

From Mythic Battles: Pantheon we have Infernal Hounds (painted last year) and Warriors, Heracles, Minotaur and Cerberus.
It’s been a bit quiet here the last couple of months, mainly because I was on a real painting low. Anyway, this x-mas I sat down with minis, paints and brushes and remembered how fun it was to paint.
Morrigan and Bob from Zombicide: Black Plague and a pack-horse (painted last year), make unknown.
So here we have what has been painted so far this year, and a couple of stragglers from the autumn.
Finally some Hastur Disciples from the excellent game Cthulhu: Death May Die

A mixed bag of painted minis

The last batch of minis painted this summer.
It’s a rather varied bunch, and some of them can and will be used in different settings.

Two useful 'heroes' from the Hillbilly Boys box from Black Scorpion. They will see action in Western settings, as well as pulp and even modern. I like this kind of really versatile minis.
A forest-tribe female from Heroes of the Dark Age. She'll be used in my upcoming solo-campaign of Paleo Diet. Just two more to finish and I can start that.
Two useful civilian kids, made by Wizkids, and a zombie, or part of one anyway, from Heresy Miniatures. The kids could also be used in several settings, and the zombie will work equally well in fantasy and modern settings.

Mythic Battles: Pantheon – Ares, Achilles and Spartans

Seems like I have a lot of un-played miniatures games in my collection, and Mythic Battles: Pantheon is one of them. I do like to play with painted minis, so I started with these to get going. As usual with boardgame-minis I tried to paint the figs so they resemble the illustrations, because that makes it so much easier to recognize the minis during games. In this game the gods are large, to sort of mirror their abilities.
These first Pantheon minis were rather easy to paint, with lots of flesh, and it was real fun to paint the the huge Ares.
More minis are coming up, as I’ve painted a bunch the last couple of months.

James, a nurse and September Tally

The final two minis finished during September were James from Zombicide: Black Plague and a nurse from Shadows of Brimstone.
James in the art does look a lot like Sean Connery from The Name of the Rose, and that might explain his name.
The nurse is a hero specializing in healing and taking samples from monsters and whatnot, hence her green bottle.

A summary of September:
Painted:
Total: 19

Bought:
2 pulp characters from Bad Squiddo Games and a 1/48 car-kit.
Total: 3

2018:
Bought:         194
Painted:         -116
Sold:              -180
Total:            - 102

Abigail from Rise of Moloch and an ordinary ghost

White… I always dread white. It’s bloody difficult to look convincingly white.
So I started with the ghost from Reaper. A white primer, Dark Tone wash and then heavy drybrushing with white.
It actually didn’t look too bad. Maybe white isn’t so difficult.
When I was half convinced that I could do a reasonable white I starter with Abigail Sutherland, one of the heroes of The World of SMOG: Rise of Moloch. She’s another stunning model, they all are.
I removed her from her internal base, cleaned up some mould-lines and repeated the ghost treatment and added colour here and there.
Ready for gaming with a ghost as a bonus.

Female Witch Doctor

The first tribe member for my Paleo Diet: Eat or be Eaten campaign. I got her from the Female Forest Tribe kickstarter. Delivery is unfortunately way behind schedule, and I’m still waiting for some spear-women and riders, but the resin-minis are really very good. Well worth the wait!
I think of her as the Chieftain of the hunting party, and probably a Shaman, Thinker or Healer.
Now I just have to finish three more females and I will have enough figures to start gaming.
If you like the looks of this, or the other figures from the kickstarter, then they will probably soon be available at Heroes of the Dark Age.

Last minis from July – nun, ghoul and Atalanta

The last post of July will be on a couple of different minis finished in the last couple of days.
The nun, from Warlord Games and their Operation Sea Lion – Enemy Agents blister, looks stern but innocent enough… from the front.
But if you look at what she’s doing behind her back… She’ll be perfect in my Vatican-league in Pulp Alley, and will have the “Burst Fire” ability. Yes, I do have a thing for armed nuns…
The ghoul’s from Andy at Heresy Miniatures, and it is a great little mini, as always from Heresy. Gruesome.
Finally the first painted mini from Mythic Battles: Pantheon. Atalanta is one of five heroes in the base box, and a good enough figure. I wasn’t super excited by the mini so she stood half-finished on the painting table quite a long time.

Conan – Belit’s Guards and core box finished

Here are the final minis from the core box – Belit’s Guards. I rushed them somewhat, as we plan to have a game of Conan tonight at the club and I really wanted everything painted by then.
That means that the core box is finished. What a great feeling!
The big question now is which game is next – Bloodrage (already started), Mythic Battles: Pantheon or The World of SMOG: Rise of Moloch (that I got a shipping notice on yesterday).

A couple of minis from Oathsworn, Blue Moon and RAFM

A varied bunch of figures this time.

First we have a pregnant woman from Oathsworn Miniatures. This is such a nice mini, and she can be used in everything from a fantasy setting, to pulp, to modern and SF.
Next a butcher from Blue Moon and their Slice of Americana box. A good background figure in a 1930’s pulp or gangster game.
Finally an knife-armed cultist from RAFM. It will come in handy in our Pulp Alley campaign as it is inevitable that it ends up in Egypt sooner or later.
Welcome new Google+ follower Mystic-Realm, makers of terrain both classic and in the form of .stl-files, and Adam Fletcher of HexT 3D-printable modular terrain. Hope you find something of interest.

Conan - Bossonian Guards

Another large batch of Conan minis finished! This time the 15 Bossonian Guards from the base box of the Conan game.
Not so very funny to paint, as they are all identical, but it sure did a big dent in the tin- and plastics-mountain and the Conan game is more than half painted! That’s a big YAY!
As a bonus i also finished Thak, a particularly nasty beast that Conan met... and killed :-) Not super-exited about how he turned out, but he'll do.
Now I’ve got five characters, five soldiers, five hyenas and finally ten picts left unpainted.
Doesn’t seem like an enormous hurdle anymore.
The five characters just moved to the painting table and I think the picts will move there, too.
To be continued, obviously.

No painting or blogging for a couple of days as I will move out into the archipelago for an extended fishing weekend with a couple of friends in a few of hours.
Take care.

Trolls from Heresy and Reaper (and a cultist)

I really had to paint some ordinary minis to be able to survive another large batch of Conan-figures. A quick rummage in the plastics mountain and I had two suitable and rather big figures.
The Dungeon Troll is sculpted by Andy Foster of Heresy Miniatures and is a fantastic mini. My absolute favourite of the two.
He (yes, it is a ‘he’ – look under the loincloth…) is a 3-part model that needed no cleaning as I couldn’t find any mould-lines! More than unusual in a model this size. I used some green stuff in the gaps between arms and body, but that was it.
A fearsome opponent if you're 28mm tall.
Take advantage of the weak £ and pop over to Andy’s store and get yourself one (or any other mini, for that matter).
This Troll, sculpted by Jason Wiebe, comes from Reaper and their Bones range (you can also get it in metal for four times the price).
It’s a decent sculpt that needed just a little cleaning of mould-lines, but a bit… cartoony. Not really in my taste, but it was easy to paint and could probably smash an adventurer or two.
Finally a cultist from Reaper Bones, you can never have enough cultists… A fast paintjob to have him ready for action.
