Conan – Belit’s Guards and core box finished

Here are the final minis from the core box – Belit’s Guards. I rushed them somewhat, as we plan to have a game of Conan tonight at the club and I really wanted everything painted by then.
That means that the core box is finished. What a great feeling!
The big question now is which game is next – Bloodrage (already started), Mythic Battles: Pantheon or The World of SMOG: Rise of Moloch (that I got a shipping notice on yesterday).

Conan: Hyenas

These hyenas were rather quick to finish. I looked at some pics of the real animals and tried to do something at least close.
In my defence I will state that animals in Conan’s world looks a bit different than the ones we see in in Africa J
Anyway, I’m rather satisfied with how they turned out, as they look suitably mean.
Only five of Belit’s Guards left, and then the Conan base-box is finished!

Final Picts for Conan

It’s been a slow painting-start this year as I’ve mainly worked on these for the Conan game.
They are the final ten picts from the core box, meaning that there are only five Belit’s Guards and five hyenas left. Yay!
Those are all on the painting table now being prepared.

I so look forward to taking the Conan-box to the club to be able to play a lot of games with fully painted minis.

Conan: Thalis and Skuthus

The final two characters from the Conan core box are finally done.
Skuthus is necromancer and the name is from one of Howards’ drafts and not official, IIRC.
Thalis is actually another baddie, but in the stories she was killed by a demon, so Conan didn’t have to do the dirty work himself.
In-game they will, off course, both die horribly by the hand of Conan. Goes without saying, really.

Now I only have some 20 minis left to paint in the core-box, and then it will head for the club.
Did I say "only"...

Conan – Khosatral Kel, Zaporavo and Captain

Khosatral Kel, Zaporavo and Captain
A couple more baddies painted for the Conan boardgame.
As always the minis are very well detailed and really top-notch.
The minis are, strangely enough, mirrored compared to the illustrations
Slowly but surely getting all the pieces for the basic game done.

Conan - Bossonian Guards

Another large batch of Conan minis finished! This time the 15 Bossonian Guards from the base box of the Conan game.
Not so very funny to paint, as they are all identical, but it sure did a big dent in the tin- and plastics-mountain and the Conan game is more than half painted! That’s a big YAY!
As a bonus i also finished Thak, a particularly nasty beast that Conan met... and killed :-) Not super-exited about how he turned out, but he'll do.
Now I’ve got five characters, five soldiers, five hyenas and finally ten picts left unpainted.
Doesn’t seem like an enormous hurdle anymore.
The five characters just moved to the painting table and I think the picts will move there, too.
To be continued, obviously.

No painting or blogging for a couple of days as I will move out into the archipelago for an extended fishing weekend with a couple of friends in a few of hours.
Take care.

Conan – Pirates and Dark Demon

So, I actually manage to speed-paint (i.e., compared to my usual speed…) a larger bunch of Conan figures. The five Bossonian Archers were a test-run and these Pirates were the real thing.
I did it! 15 minis in about a weeks’ time. A record and as a bonus they don’t look half bad. Yay!
They’re primed dark brown, block painted and washed.
Suddenly it looks as if it is possible to play Conan with painted minis in the not to distant future.
The Dark Demon was a very fast paintjob. Primed black, a couple of highlight and fangs. Done in next to no time.
Next in the queue are more Bossonian soldiers, but I’ve prepared some other minis, too, just to prevent madness.

Conan: Bossonian Archers

I like to play games with painted minis, but there have unfortunately been quite a few games of Conan and Blood Rage lately with unpainted ones. It’s time to do something about that, and the first game to get some painting done is Conan.
No clear bases for the troops, as they are usually divided into different troops in the game, and those troops are identified with coloured discs clipped to the bases, and they don't work super well on my clear bases. So I keep it simple and just give these guys a grey base.
There’s one problem, though, as the Conan game includes a lot of identical minis, those hordes of troops, 15 each of several types and five of others. I really don’t like to paint identical figures; it just takes forever and bores me to death.
Painted compared to art.
I had to speed things up or this project would kill the pleasure of painting.
I usually prime with white and then give the minis a black wash to bring out the details. A great method for my usual painting style. But this time I went back to what I began with, a long time ago: black primer.
So I tried a black base-coat, block painting with unpainted ‘shadows’ between the different colours and a final wash to bring some life to the minis.
I also did a very fast basecoat-and-drybrush job on this Outer Dark Demon
The result was rather nice, much faster than my usual painting and certainly good enough for all those multiple troops.

Next up are 15 pirates. 15… urgh…

Conan: Hadrathus

I was in a bit of a hurry to get Hadrathus finished for tonight game of Conan.
My least favourite mini from the game so far, as his face really isn’t more than an ill-define, half-melted blob. I tried to get some detailing with shadows and highlights, and I guess it’s good enough for the gaming table. He sure beats an unpainted figure, anyway.

Conan: Bêlit

The minis from the Conan game are slowly being painted, at least the single figures, as I really don’t like to paint multiples of the same mini.
Anyway, here we have Bêlit, a horror to paint with all that jewellery, straps and whatnot. I’m so glad she is finished J
She will probably see action in tonight’s game.

Conan: Shevatas

Shevatas flanked by two piles of skulls.
We had a game of Conan the other day and this time I was on the Conan-team and we just lost the game against the evil Overlord (Thomas, in this case. He got his revenge, as it was the same game we played last week and where he suffered a humiliating defeat. He had learned his lessons…). It was essentially depending on a unlucky roll in the last round. Very annoying, and I’m sure it was all because I played with an unpainted Shevatas-figure.
No more, I say. Here he is, painted and ready for another game and victory.

Conan – Giant Serpent

I had another game of Conan with Thomas yesterday. I was the hero and quickly crushed the opposing bad guys. It was a bit too easy, mainly because we both had forgotten far too much of the rules and made some serious mistakes. So, to offset that, we have decided to play Conan for a couple of weeks in a row to actually learn the rules and (hopefully) not forget them between plays.
The problem with too many good games is that you are tempted to switch between them, which isn’t all that great when your memory is what it is :-)
Anyway, I made a very quick paintjob on the giant snake that made an appearance in the scenario.
I had green-stuffed it during the weekend and block-painted (the back and the abdomen are actually painted with different nuances but it doesn't show in the pics) and washed it the evening before the game. Drybrushing after breakfast and varnished before I left for the club. Super-fast for me and the result is a very nice playing piece. It might even see action in other games.
The last thing you see...

Conan – the man himself

A short update on the Conan game, this time the man himself: Conan!
Behind him you can see some boxes that were part of the kickstarter. They are very basic but useful in the game as it is so easy to miss the cardboard ones on the cardboard gaming table when you play.
I will hopefully see him in action in a game next week.

I’ve been working on my hobby corner, the harbour, the 3D-printer and some WWII-stuff, and that’s why there have been far too few updates the last week or so. That will be rectified.

Me and the daughter visited Tumbacon/Incognicon during the weekend and played quite a few games. The best one was Star Realms. I bought that one and we had several games yesterday. Very fun game!
