Smithy and some scatter terrain from Zealot

A smithy that I'm sure will come in handy.

Here’s some more stuff that stood half-finished on the painting table. As ususal it just took a short while to do the finishing touches.
A gate with portcullis, bubbling cauldron filled with something I would refuce to taste and a chest.
Everything comes from Zealot Miniatures and I got them from their kickstarter a couple of years ago.
Now I just have to design an adventure to use it all in.

Brimstone – Custodians of Targa and Targa Plateau Pylons

Some Shadows of Brimstone stuff I’ve finished. I’m sort of concentrating on stuff for Targa and Jargono, as I’ve already got some monsters from these. That is not to say I won’t paint anything else, you know me…
These models are from the Custodians of Targa Enemy Pack.
The ususal 28mm figure to get a sense of size.
The Custodians are interesting figures and easy to paint. I can see them used in a pulp setting, too.
The pylons were as easy and will replace the cardboard pieces you got in the starter box.
I'm sensing a game of Shadows of Brimstone coming up soon.

Pulp Carnival – stalls and entrance

I want to make a pulp-themed carnival as that would look just great and will give lots of opportunities for my pulp leagues to tackle all manners of evil things.
Here’s the first instalment.
Entrance and ticket booth from Plast Craft Games and their Circus Entrance box.
These (except the struts) are made of a thick, white printed plastic and when assembled that white really shines. I painted all corners of the booth to make them blend with the printed parts, and that worked reasonably well.
The stage, from the Circus Stage box.
Same thing here with painting the white plastic.
Huge signposts from both of the above boxes.
Ticket Kiosk and Newstand/Market Stall from Sarissa.
Not at all satisfied with the signs, so I'll probably print some appropriate ones.

The Souk - Set Dressings by Sally 4th

Having a lot of details and small scenery-pieces is what really makes a gaming board, in my opinion.
My Pulp Alley campaign will soon move to North Africa and I need more stuff for that setting. While shopping for scenery for my Pulp Carnival setting I found this, MDF-scenery for a North African market place.
The Souk - Set Dressings by Sally 4th gives you a lot of stuff; 8 market stalls, 2 carpet racks (with carpets), 6 benches, 2 wheeled barrows, 4 boxes and finally 2 fruit display crates (that I haven’t assembled yet, as they are quite fiddly). All this for £20 - great value!
I assembled as per instructions and painted everything to get a more pleasing look compared to the ‘raw’ look. The carpets were cut out and painted with a dilute sand-colour on the reverse, to avoid the stark white from the paper. I also painted two canopies with a dilute yellow, to get some variability. I might paint a couple more in the future.
All in all a super set, well worth the money and definitely a must-buy for pulp-games in North Africa or any appropriate historical setting. Rome, maybe.

Monster Nest and a skull pillar

I’ve been painting some terrain-pieces in between all those picts.
The Monster Nest from Oathsworn Miniatures is a nice little piece that I’m sure will see action.

The Skull Pillar comes from RAFM and will serve well as a plot point in Pulp Alley. The little pile of skulls is from the same company, and… well, you can never have to many piles of skulls.

Scenery from Zealot

I just finished some more scenery from Zealot, this time a bed, rustic throne, banquet table with cloth and three monster beddings.

Everything is, as always, really great stuff.

Torture Chamber stuff from Reaper

There is bound to be a torture chamber in every evil overlords lair, regardless of setting. Medieval looks seem to be chic, probably because of expectations.
These from Reaper Bones will serve well, along with the ones from Zealot I already have.  The stocks will not look out of place in a town-setting either.

A bit of an overlap, but they might have several customers at the same time.
Something for the heroes to be upset about, and giving them a reason to slaughter everyone and everything they encounter. Poor minions.

Scenery from Reaper Bones

I did a quick job on some Reaper Bones scenery, mainly to just move stuff from the tin- and plastics-mountain.

Dungeon scenery from Zealot

Another batch of scenery from Zealot. Useful stuff, large and small.
Living door - closed and open. Would you enter?
A double door.
Levers - they told me to pull one, but which?
A cultist - useful as a statue

A gibbet with an unfortunant ex-tenant and a stool
A welcome news is that everything from the kickstarter is now available from their shop. There are things like really large scenery pieces down to stuff like books, goblets, bones and wands, very useful for treasure/objective markers etc. Well worth a visit!

Magical Portal from Zealot (and a ghost)

More stuff from the Zealot Kickstarter, this time a magic portal. It’s a four-piece kit, with two halves of the stone frame, the base and the translucent blue portal. It needs some green-stuffing, but nothing major.
I will use it as a portal between the planes in our Cthulhu-inspired Pulp Alley campaign at the club. I'm writing a scenario around it.
Stay tuned for some monstrous beings that might just be summoned through it during that game.

Finally a ghost, also from Zealot.

Even more dungeon scenery from Zealot

I’m still working on scenery from Zealot on and off. Here we have what I’ve painted up during the last few weeks.
A really nice little well. I've added Woodland Scenics 'water' in it.
A spiral stairs
Doorways, open portcullises, a pit, bucket and a cross.
Still lots of Zealot stuff to finish and I try to always have some pieces on the painting table so I can splash on some paint in between the other projects.

Torture chamber accessories from Zealot

Every evil villain needs a torture chamber and every hero needs to save someone from said chamber. That is pulp basics, and probably valid in fantasy settings, too.

A good thing then, that I have an assortment of implements for such a chamber. They are all made by Zealot Miniatures, and are part of the kickstarter stuff I got a couple of months ago.
There will be a thing or two more for the chamber from Zealot soon and also some stuff from Reaper, but those are from the Bones III kickstarter and will take a while to arrive.

A warm welcome to new follower Ivor Evans with Saturday Mornings where you will find fantastic terrain, great AARs and more. Recommended!

Pål from the club has also joined and he’s got a brand new blog, Wargame Development from the Trenches, which is about his just started project to build a WWII skirmish computer-game. Just one post so far (he got started with the blog yesterday!) and it sure looks interesting. I for one will follow Pål’s progress and I became his first follower! Yay! Do check it out and have a chance to influence the design of the game!

More dungeon scenery from Zealot Miniatures

Lots of stuff from Zealot Miniatures ready for action.
Tiered stairs for use in the dungeon or maybe a castle
A Fireplace with a comfy little fire to drive away the chill of a dungeon near you.
That's a nice Forgotten Fountain
There were clear inserts but I used Woodland Scenics Realistic Water instead.
When you least expect it... a water weird! A clear resin piece you can put over the fountain. Difficult to see in the picture, but there is a monstrous head there. I put a gloss varnish on it to let it look more watery.
A dwarven arch
This lectern is actually from Pulp Figures and their Cowled Cultists 1 pack.
The lectern and a big Zealot box. You can never have to many boxes.
A Tomb...
Oh, there is a mummy inside.
Aaaaargh! (mummy from Blue Moon)
I hope you enjoyed this look at some of Zealot's stuff.
