Blood Rage: Frost Giant

Blood Rage is probably the best game I have in my game collection, but it is unfortunately played far too seldom. Now it’s at the club as we really want to see it more often on the gaming table.
It’s at the club and the half-finished Frost Giant stood on the painting table… not a good combo.
I have far too many half-finished minis and this one was a good reason to try to get them painted. As usual it didn’t take that much time to actually finish this one, and when I started it was lots of fun, as the mini is great.
So here it is painted and ready for a trip to the club.
Now I’m starting on a few of those other not-finished minis. With some luck they will be all be painted in the not too distant future.
He's huge, as giants tend to be.

Blood Rage: Fenrir and two Reaper Bones wolves

Blood Rage is the next game I will paint figures for, and it’s really fun as the minis are just fantastic, the game’s got a great theme (who doesn’t like Ragnarök?) and it is without a doubt one of the best board-games I got.
I’ve already painted quite a few minis, but now I’m concentrating on finish everything for that game.
First of the new batch is Fenrir, one of the mythological monsters that you can recruit to your clan.
A huge miniature that turned out real well.
I painted two other wolves, both from the Reaper Bones range, while I was in wolf-mode. One is large, a worg or dire-wolf, while the other is two-headed.
The sculpts are okay, but really nothing more, and the two-headed one needed green-stuffing as there was a rather prominent gap where one of the heads were pre-glued to the rest of the body.
These two will join my expanding pack of wolf-kin.

Ram Clan Shaman from Blood Rage

This guy comes from the Blood Rage: Mystics of Midgard pack.
I started him early last year, intending to use him in Frostgrave. But he wasn’t needed as my warband became all-female and this guy just stood there in the painting queue, essentially just needing a few details finished here and there.

Now that is rectified and with some hope we will see him in a game in the not too distant future. He’s got an identical brother that I really should paint also. Sometime soon, maybe.

Troll from Blood Rage

Another mini finished, this time a troll from the Blood Rage boardgame. He’s sat there on the painting table and just needed some details done. Another easy mini to move from the mountain of plastic and tin.

For my own future reference I used Citadel Tallarn Flesh with a wash of Army Painter Strong Tone Ink and after that a drybrush of Tallarn Flesh. Hair Vallejo 984 Flat Brown, Strong Tone ink and a light drybrush of 977 Desert Yellow.
Welcome Nergling with a blog with the same name, Nergling, full of miniature goodness. You’ll find some really nice videos and other stuff. Well worth a look.

Raven Clan from Blood Rage

I have a small problem.
I got a big box of goodies a couple of months ago – the loot from the Blood Rage Kickstarter. Great stuff, lots of minis and I started painting them.
Then another big box arrives – more loot, this time the first batch from the Zombicide: Black Plague kickstarter. Lovely figs and I started painting them.
And then another big box – the first batch from the Mercs kickstarter. Nice figs and I started to assemble and paint them.
Hey, hold it! That’s a lot of figures (and more to come) and I can do a little bit of everything and never be finished or I could concentrate on one game at a time and actually play with painted figs in at least one game. The last option is what I went for.
I guess you think I decided to paint my Blood Rage stuff first, but nope. Zombicide is what I’m concentrating on and these Blood Rage figs are those half-finished ones I just wanted to rid the painting table off. So I finished these in an evening and they are the boss, two soldiers (of a total of eight with these two sculpts) and the final mystic (I painted one before).
As you can see they are full of details and they really take some time to finish. Blue is the clan colour and I will let everyone have blue coats to be able to easily differentiate them on the gaming table.

Next post will be another hero from Zombicide and after that it will be a mix of Zombicide and other stuff. There is just no way I’m just painting stuff for one game…

Blood Rage – Soldier of Hel

What would a game be without a zombie?
This is the closest thing to one you’ll get from the Blood Rage boardgame. Hel is part of the underworld, some sources says it is where evil men go when they die (instead of Valhalla) and this Soldier of Hel is probably one of these men.
A decent sculpt but nothing special.
As a bonus you’ll get a Dwarf Chieftain also. One of my least favourite minis from the game and I’m not at all satisfied with how he turned out. Ah, well, he is painted and that’s that.

Raven Clan Mystic from Blood Rage

This witch comes from the Mystics of Midgard expansion for the Blood Rage boardgame and is part of the Blood Rage kickstarter I received a while ago. In the pack you find two identical mystics for five clans and this one is just perfect as a witch for Frostgrave. She is really great as a witch for whatever fantasy-themed game you play, actually.
I changed her integral base to a clear one from Sally 4th
Paints used:
Basecoated with Vallejo Foundation White and a wash of Army Painted Dark Tone ink.
Dress – Black highlighted with Vallejo 822 German Camo Black Brown and 871 Leather Brown.
Cloak – 886 Green Grey, wash of AP Strong Tone, highlighted 886
Cauldron – Citadel Dwarf Bronze with a Strong Tone wash
Hair – 883 Silver Grey with a Dark Tone wash
Feathers – Black drybrushed with 992 Neutral Grey
Leather – Formula P3 Bootstrap Leather
Arm warmers – 962 Flat Blue, Citadel Washes Asurmen Blue and highlighted 962 and Citadel Ice Blue (Note – the blue is the clan colour and all Raven Clan figures will have something in this blue colour to tie them together visually)

Welcome new follower Lee Brady with Harold’s Revenge that is all about Oldhammer, SAGA, Frostgrave, miniatures, museums, dioramas and other great stuff. Give it a look, it is well worth the time.

Sea Serpent from Blood Rage Boardgame

I backed the Blood Rage kickstarter earlier this year and I got the loot in in October. The first miniature is painted now - the sea serpent. It will obviously be used in the game when we start playing, but it could also see use in both fantasy and pulp settings. A great mini.
It’s made in a grey rather hard plastic that is easy to clean from the very faint mold lines.
Paints used:
Skin – Vallejo 928 Dark Yellow + wash with Army painter Strong Tone Ink
Tentacles - 982 Dark Yellow and got several washes with Citadel Washes Baal Red, more on the tips and only one close to the body
Mouth – 985 Hull Red highlighted with Citadel Scab Red
Teeth – Vallejo Game Colour Bone White with a Strong Tone wash and more Bone White as highlight.
Water – 962 Flat Blue with a wash of Citadel Washes Asurmen Blue. Highlighted with a mix of Flat Blue, Citadel Ice Blue and white getting progressively more white at edges.
Everything got a coat of gloss varnish and is ready for the table.

First stop will probably be in our Pulp Alley campaign on Perilous Island.

Loooooot! - Blood Rage and two submarines

Two boxes with my name on them today.
First I picked up a parcel at the local Post Office pick-up point.
Two midget submarines for Pulp Alley games and maybe a WWII commando raid. Soerabaja Harbour will see much more action.
Resin and etched metal. This is going to be fun!
Then came DHL and delivered a big box at my door-step.
One huge box full of goodies.
Loot from the Blood Rage Kickstarter.
The main attraction - Blood Rage.
Ooooh. Boxes in the box and cards and rules and.... stuff.
Lots of beautiful minis in the big box. Four clans to fight the final fight - Ragnarök.
A Völur Witch dressed for the beach and maybe, just maybe, not for Midgård... :-(
A warrior from the Serpent clan.
Fire giant, frost giant, sea serpent and troll from the smaller box in the game. Big brutes.
The sea serpent will hit the painting table immediately. It will see action in the next Pulp Alley game.

These boxes are Stretch goals. Mountain giant, wolfman, another troll and the Fenrir.
Another stretch goal - mystics to help you.
Two each of five different mystics.
What would Ragnarök be without the Gods. Yet another stretch goal.
Loke, Tor, Tyr, Freja, Heimdal and Oden.
Another clan in an expansion. Final stretchgoals in this one.
More figures and cool tokens to be used instead of cardboard counters. Niiiice.
A good day indeed.
