Painters block seem to have been truly gone

The painting low I had this autumn seem to be gone (for good?), as I have cranked out a lot of minis the last month.
First these gangers for use in our club campaign of Street Wars. They are the Black Cobras gang from the same manufacturer, and has seen two battles so far.
First game. The Black Cobras take on the Mollies, while trying to mug some pesky civilians.
A Mollie lookout

The uncultured and rather racist Devil Outcasts join the fun. For the Black Cobras this turned into a two-front war, which you usually don't win.
The cops stop eating donoughts and make an appearance. A Mollie is arrested, to the general merriment of two players.
The first was, ahem, a learning game for the gang (see above), but the second fight showed which gang of the four in that fight was the mightiest (the last roll of the last turn saw the Black Cobras go from a last place to the first. Truly heroic wasting of a knocked out enemy leader…)
Next we have some savages. The first two are Forest tribe women from Heroes of the Dark Age. Fantastic resin-figures but rather small at around 25 mm.
Then we have two taller heroes from Shadows of Brimstone, made of a horrible resin. In the background a portal from the same game, and a 3D-printed Kraken Idol from EC3D.
Last but not least is this rather diverse bunch. A serving woman from Wizkids, then a 3D-printed penguin from EC3D, a centaur (the best on the market in my opinion) from Heresy Miniatures, a 3D-printed zombie (I don’t remember the make, but I’m not too happy with it. Will have a higher resolution next time) and finally two giant rats from Reaper.
That’s it for now. Got a dozen or so Arabs nearly finished and lots more in the queue, both figures and buildings.

Painted minis

From Mythic Battles: Pantheon we have Infernal Hounds (painted last year) and Warriors, Heracles, Minotaur and Cerberus.
It’s been a bit quiet here the last couple of months, mainly because I was on a real painting low. Anyway, this x-mas I sat down with minis, paints and brushes and remembered how fun it was to paint.
Morrigan and Bob from Zombicide: Black Plague and a pack-horse (painted last year), make unknown.
So here we have what has been painted so far this year, and a couple of stragglers from the autumn.
Finally some Hastur Disciples from the excellent game Cthulhu: Death May Die

Last minis from July – nun, ghoul and Atalanta

The last post of July will be on a couple of different minis finished in the last couple of days.
The nun, from Warlord Games and their Operation Sea Lion – Enemy Agents blister, looks stern but innocent enough… from the front.
But if you look at what she’s doing behind her back… She’ll be perfect in my Vatican-league in Pulp Alley, and will have the “Burst Fire” ability. Yes, I do have a thing for armed nuns…
The ghoul’s from Andy at Heresy Miniatures, and it is a great little mini, as always from Heresy. Gruesome.
Finally the first painted mini from Mythic Battles: Pantheon. Atalanta is one of five heroes in the base box, and a good enough figure. I wasn’t super excited by the mini so she stood half-finished on the painting table quite a long time.

Catapult from Printable Scenery

A friend of a friend had an opportunity to print this catapult from Printable Scenery for me. He’s got a ‘slightly’ better printer than me, but it cost around half a million SEK (or £/€ 50 000) so it should be :)
I got the stl-file for this single-piece model from a kickstarter a while ago, but if you want one yourself it is possible to get the the file either as a single file or as a part of a siege-engine bundle (that is presently on sale).
Even though it comes as a single-piece print I had to repair it, and reposition the lever, as my pal had mistakenly parked a heavy suitcase on it. The single-piece was in three pieces when I got it, and that proved to be one piece short of what was needed. To make matters worse, the missing piece was small and made of a clear translucent plastic... It was eventually found in the bottom of a backpack.

Anyway, here’s the finished catapult. Amazing detail and no sign of it being a printed piece.

Conan: Zogar Sag

The first mini from the Conan boardgame is done - Zogar Sag from the story Beyond the Black River. He is a pictish sorcerer and tried to unite several pict tribes and have them invade civilized lands. He met Conan and died – sort of the usual story J (But Conan didn’t kill him directly, only through proxy, sort of. You should read the story if you haven’t already)
Anyway, I had him (unpainted, though) in our first game of Conan… and he died… but so did Conan!
The question is: what should be next on the painting table from the Conan box? Conan? We’ll see.

Unboxing Conan

The friendly guy from the Post Office just rang on my door. He has become rather used to these large but relatively light boxes by now.
The anticipation... is it?
Yes!
Conan has arrived!
The basic game box
Full of beautiful minis
Oh dear, this will take me ages to paint...
Comparison between my usual female fighter from Otherworld vs Conan and Belit
The kickstarter extras. A box just as full of stuff.
In total this is about the amount if minis I manage to paint during a year. Hmm, what was I thinking about...? Oh yeah, Conan, that's why.
 This looks just great.

Samson the Dwarf, abomination and more zombies from Zombicide: Black Plague

More painted figs for Zombicide: Black Plague boardgame.
Samson the Dwarf put on a clear base from Sally 4th.
I tried to stay close to the illustration, as that will make it easier to identify the mini on the gaming board.
The Abomination, a super-zombie that is nearly impossible to take out.
Same thing here, I tried to stay close to the illustrations.
Five fatties finished
And another five regular zombies. One of them got a miscast hand, but that doesn't really matter.
They are all off for a game tonight.

On another note, you can see some of my ships and boats in Wargames, Solders & Strategy issue 83, where club-chap Michael Leck (aka Dalauppror) let 1980’s Swedish forces battle it out with Soviets in “Whiskey on the Rocks” (a true incident that could have turned very sour indeed).

Welcome Oliver Jaeger (no blog I could find – if you have one then put a link in the comments below, please) and El Grego with blogs The Pewter-Pixel Wars (a bit about everything gaming), Mini Ship Gaming (just what it says on the tin, from fantasy to modern) and Threwdish Ways (a project, I think, with monsters, muskets and whatnot). Go check them out and see if they are for you!

Raven Clan Mystic from Blood Rage

This witch comes from the Mystics of Midgard expansion for the Blood Rage boardgame and is part of the Blood Rage kickstarter I received a while ago. In the pack you find two identical mystics for five clans and this one is just perfect as a witch for Frostgrave. She is really great as a witch for whatever fantasy-themed game you play, actually.
I changed her integral base to a clear one from Sally 4th
Paints used:
Basecoated with Vallejo Foundation White and a wash of Army Painted Dark Tone ink.
Dress – Black highlighted with Vallejo 822 German Camo Black Brown and 871 Leather Brown.
Cloak – 886 Green Grey, wash of AP Strong Tone, highlighted 886
Cauldron – Citadel Dwarf Bronze with a Strong Tone wash
Hair – 883 Silver Grey with a Dark Tone wash
Feathers – Black drybrushed with 992 Neutral Grey
Leather – Formula P3 Bootstrap Leather
Arm warmers – 962 Flat Blue, Citadel Washes Asurmen Blue and highlighted 962 and Citadel Ice Blue (Note – the blue is the clan colour and all Raven Clan figures will have something in this blue colour to tie them together visually)

Welcome new follower Lee Brady with Harold’s Revenge that is all about Oldhammer, SAGA, Frostgrave, miniatures, museums, dioramas and other great stuff. Give it a look, it is well worth the time.

Hill Giant Krug from Reaper

This is Hill Giant Krug, sculpted by Tre Manor and available from Reaper Miniatures both in metal (03239 at about $40) or in plastics from their Bones range (77313 for $9). I got mine from the Bones II kickstarter.
I used Citadel Tallarn Flesh with a Strong Tone Ink wash for the skin.
Pretty satisfied with how it all turned out.

He's a rather big bloke...
It’s a really nice miniature and my son David drooled over the finished model and started mumbling about getting himself a new warband for Open Combat. I guess I’m going to meet this brute soon…
