Dust – Red Fury/Red Rain

Dust beckoned me again, and this great piece, the BR-47, hit the painting table.
This kit for the SSU-faction includes two versions, where you can use the chassis for either the Red Fury armed with an anti-tank gun, or Red Rain where you’ve got an artillery piece.
The crew is three men for either case and I got four men with the kit, so there is essentially a choice of commanders.
It’s a great model, made all the better for the royal whupping it gave Thomas in a game of Dust ages ago. The Red Fury, well protected behind a wall, picked off half his army. Sweet memories…

A SSU walker is awaiting paint now. Dust-minis is such a joy to paint.

Dust – Steel Guards Sniper Squad and a game of Brimstone

These are the SSU Steel Guard Sniper Squad, also known as Silent Death. Two snipers armed with 23mm Heavy Rifles and Steel Gloves, these are truly fearsome adversaries.
They are the first of the Kickstarter minis I’ve painted, and they are just fantastic. A pleasure to paint and they look like they could take on the world, or at least some German heavy infantry.
I put some more effort into these, as I think they deserved it.
Paints used:
Armour – Vallejo 894 Camo Olive Green with an Army Painter Dark Tone wash. Heavily drybrushed with 968 Flat Green and drybrushed 863 Gunmetal Grey. Rust painted with 68 Smokey Ink.
Tubes – 306 Dark Rubber
Weapons and springs – 863 Gunmetal Grey with two washes of Dark Tone
Cloth – 924 Russian Uniform WWII with a Strong Tone wash
Leather straps – 876 Brown Sand also washed with Strong Tone.
Missing a piece on the tank behind the body. That and a couple of missing cards from the kickstarter will hopefully arrive in the post shortly.
They are big.

I played my first game of Brimstone with one of my sons this weekend. We played the introductory scenario, using a Marshal and Saloon Girl, misunderstood a lot of the rules, made mistakes and got our behinds whipped, but we enjoyed ourselves immensely.
I used some of my Black Scorpion minis as substitutes
We only used the minis I have already painted and I feel that the game will be much more fun the more different minis you have, so at the moment I’m assembling all monsters from the other box and waiting eagerly for the rest of the stuff from the Kickstarter.

Great fun! More games will be played shortly.

Dust – Rifle Squad

These are the first minis of this year, a SSU Rifle Squad or Ohotniki. Three guys armed with PPSH-48 sub-machine guns and two with Widowmaker rifles. These should work well as ordinary grunts, I guess.
They are painted like my SSU Battle Squad, the only difference being the red star on their caps being Citadel Red Gore and I painted the assault packs in Vallejo 914 Green Ochre to make the painting even more streamlined.
30mm bases from Sally 4th.

Next on the painting table, nearly finished, are the heavy snipers. They are seriously cool.

Dust – Battle Squad and a giveaway!

Enough German Dust-squads for a while now. Time for SSU, the Chinese-Soviet pact, and first up is a SSU Battle Squad, aka Frontoviki.
Five men armed with assault and machine guns and lightly armoured. The minis needed some cleaning as there are mould-lines. They’re not in any way bad but I prefer to clean them off.
One thing that bothers me a bit with these figures are that they all wear the same magazine pouches, regardless of weapon used. I had an idea about sculpting a new pouch for the machine gunners and making a mould of it so I could produce a bunch. But that is for later…
I’ve based the paint-scheme on the previous early-war Russians I painted earlier this year. A bit simplified though.
Paints used:
Uniform – 924 Russian Uniform
Assault pack – 912 Tan Yellow
Magazine pouch, entrenching tool cover – 914 Green Ochre
Entrenching tool handle, grenade handle – 843 Cork Brown
Water Bottle – Formula P3 Battledress Green
Belt – 984 Flat Brown
All above one coat of Army Painter Strong Tone Ink wash.
Amour, helmets, knife sheath, magazines etc – 894 Camo Olive Green + AP Dark Tone Ink
Gloves – Citadel Foundation Charadon Granite + AP Dark Tone Ink
Weapons, metal – 863 Gunmetal Grey + 2 coats of AP Dark Tone
Knife handle - black
Bases will be changed to transparent ones as soon as I get those. Should be any day now.

EndTransmission’s gaming stuff is a good blog that I’m following. He covers just about everything with a slight emphasis on zombies. A great read and recommended. Anyway, The site has reached 25 000 page-views, and that is, off course, cause for a celebration – a give-away with a chance to win a goodie box. Go over and check it out!

Don’t forget my own 100K giveaway.
