More painted figures

A bunch more figures finished the last month or so.
Muslim and Ottoman Civilians from Perry Miniatures
Istanbul Constabulary from Pulp Figures
A monster from Reaper, two Hybrid Deep Ones from RAFM and three Servants of the Deep from Cthulhu: Death May Die
A horse from Wizkids, two Wild West hobos from Black Scorpion and two 3D-printed seals from EC3D.
Gnolls from North Star
Now I'm finishing and painting a lot of all that 3D-printed stuff. More on that soon.

A mixed bag of painted minis

The last batch of minis painted this summer.
It’s a rather varied bunch, and some of them can and will be used in different settings.

Two useful 'heroes' from the Hillbilly Boys box from Black Scorpion. They will see action in Western settings, as well as pulp and even modern. I like this kind of really versatile minis.
A forest-tribe female from Heroes of the Dark Age. She'll be used in my upcoming solo-campaign of Paleo Diet. Just two more to finish and I can start that.
Two useful civilian kids, made by Wizkids, and a zombie, or part of one anyway, from Heresy Miniatures. The kids could also be used in several settings, and the zombie will work equally well in fantasy and modern settings.

Old West figures from Black Scorpion Miniatures

I bought the Tombstone 4 set from Black Scorpion in 2015 to get my hands on the priest, for use in Pulp Alley. The other four minis went into the resin-mountain, waiting for some attention.
As I’m working on my Old West buildings I thought it was a good idea to finish these figures, as I hope it all will see action soon. So, here they are, after a coat of paint.

Very nice minis, these.

More priests from Reaper and Black Scorpion

The CSSS needs more recruits and these are the latest additions.
The gun-man is "Father Thomas the Vicar" from Reaper’s Chronoscope range (no 50081) and is sculpted by Tim Prow. I have not made a character of him yet in my Pulp Alley league, but he will probably be an ordinary grunt taking the place of one of the soldiers.
The man with a cross is from Black Scorpion Miniatures and their Tombstone Wild West range. He is one of five figs in the Tombstone 4 set and will serve in both the CSSS and in Dead Man’s Hand. In Pulp Alley he is named Padre Scuro and is an ally with the Blast ability, that is, he fires his shotgun placing a long blast template before him. That area counts as extremely perilous for the remainder of the round and should be a very efficient cultist-killer.

Padre Scuro was used in yesterday’s game in Soerabja Harbor. He was a bit nervous this time and didn’t perform overly well, but more on that in the AAR coming soon.

Welcome Katsuhiko JiNNai with The Realm of JiNNai. Lots of pulpy goodness, fantasy and more. Check it out.

Black Scorpion vs Brimstone – a comparison

There seems to be an interest in using Black Scorpion miniatures as substitutes for the minis in the Brimstone boxes.
Here are a couple of comparison shots for those interested. The unpainted minis are Brimstone, waiting for paint.
Click here for more on Brimstone and here for a lot of Black Scorpion minis.

Don’t forget the 100K giveaway.

28mm Western Outlaws from Black Scorpion

Five Outlaws from the Black Scorpion’s Tombstone range. Resin figures, around 32mm scale.
I bought the rule-set Dead Man’s Hand from Great Escape Games the other day, and it looks as if we will soon have enough figures for a shoot-out. I’m really looking forward to trying the rules out.
I also looked at the movie Open Range yesterday, to get in the mood. Good film, excellent shoot-out.
Paints used: (Vallejo unless noted)
Trousers – 964 Field Blue, washed with Citadel Azurmen Blue and drybrushed with Citadel Ice Blue and very lightly with 820 Off White.
The rest of the figure was painted with the colours mentioned below, and then washed with Army Painter Strong Tone wash.
Skin – 955 Flat Flesh, washed and layered with 955.
Lower Lips – Citadel Dwarf Flesh

Masks and sack – Coat d’arms 240 Unbleached Wool
Scarf – Citadel Scab Red
Guns – 865 Oily Steel washed with P3 Armor Wash
Gun-stocks – 984 Flat Brown and 981 Orange brown as graining (first time I tried this, and it worked reasonably well. I have to get more practice to get it to look right)

Two more 28mm Wild West from Black Scorpion

The gunman was my first Wild West figure, and hot on his heals we have two more figures from the same Town Watch pack from Black Scorpion’s Tombstone range.
First we have Grandpa – look at that face, full of character.
Paints used (Vallejo unless noted):
Coat – Citadel Foundation Calthan Brown
Shirt – 914 Green Ochre
Boots and belt – Formula P3 Bootstrap Leather
Gun stock – 843 Cork Brown
Skin - 955 Flat Flesh
All above washed with Devlan Mud
Pants and band on hat  – Citadel Foundation Charadon Granite
Hat – 992 Neutral Grey
Hair – 989 Sky Grey
And these washed with Army Painter Strong Tone
Next up is a well-dressed woman sporting a shotgun. Someone is interrupting her dinner, and she is not pleased about it.
Dress – Citadel Foundation Mechrite Red and a wash of Citadel Baal Red
She’s veering a cloth-belt tied up in a bow on her back, you can see a tiny bit of it – 883 Silver grey and layered on white as a highlight.
Hair – Coat d’arms 223 Horse Tone Chestnut washed with Army Painter Strong Tone
Her skin is painted as above, but with a layer of 955 Flat Flesh to get her a lighter and cleaner look.
Lips - 944 Old Rose (I should have given her mouth a redder tone, with the Old Rose for her lips. For next time)

28mm gunman from Black Scorpion

The last couple of weeks have been good, or bad, depending on how you look on things.
First, I succumbed to the temptation and fell for WWII in 28mm, specifically Winter War and the Baker Company kickstarter. I blame Thomas and Laffe for this, both have started on 28mm figures, posting them on their blogs and tempting me, and Thomas especially as he went lyrical about this Kickstarter. Not my fault at all….
Secondly this guy….
Wild West has long been something I have wanted to try, but I have always said to myself, “Not another period”. I actually persevered for several years.
But then I bought these wagons from 4Ground, seen in a couple of posts, really nice. Could be used in the Wild West, by the way…. oh, and they have a lot of nice buildings…
Then I had those houses bought from Paul Darnell, just lying there.
And I read Henry Hyde’s The Wargaming Compendium - there were Wild West-rules in it.
And then Alphaspel had a sale, and they got some Wild West figures…
The perfect storm, and it blew me away….
So, here I am, with two new periods/scales, and a grin on my face. Ah, who cares about climbing gear for a tin and plastics mountain?
So, this guy is from Black Scorpion and their Tombstone range, the Town Watch pack. Fantastic details on these figures (actually closer to 32 mm, ‘heroic’ 28mm I guess…), and this is the first painted one, waiting for foes and a saloon.
Paints used (Vallejo unless noted):
Trousers – 964 Field Blue
Hat – Citadel Foundation Charadon Granite
Band on hat – 836 London Grey
All above washed with Army Painter Dark Tone Ink
Shirt – 874 Tan Earth
Boots and belt – Formula P3 Bootstrap Leather
Skin – 955 Flat Flesh
Hair – 984 Flat Earth
Gun, buttons and bullets in belt – 865 Oily Steel
And this was washed with Army Painter Strong Tone
Finally the shells in his belt were picked out with 58 Brassy Brass

Yep, it’s fun with a new period. Two more from the same set that I just need to give a coat of varnish.

Welcome follower Andrew Saunders with Loki’s Great Hall blog. Very nice with lots of beautifully painted figs and nice terrain. Fully recommended, I’m now a follower.

Echo in 28mm by Black Scorpion

Lovely Echo is one of these models I’ve had my eyes on for a long time. She is sculpted by Adam Clarke (I think) and from his company, Black Scorpion Miniatures.
I bought her a while ago, and was intimidated. I simply had no idea how to paint her. Anyway I started this summer, and she got a bit of paint now and then. I had to re-paint some things that didn't turn out the way I wanted it.
Paints used (Vallejo unless otherwise noted)
Base-coated white with a black wash.
Skin – 003 Pale Flesh
Nipples – 835 Salmon Pink drybrushed with Pale Flesh
Hands and arms washed with Citadel Leviathan Purple and drybrushed with Pale Flesh (not altogether happy with how her hands/claws turned out)
Everything washed with Army Painter Soft Tone Ink
Drybrushed again with Pale Flesh
Lips – Citadel  Blood Red overpainted with 944 Old Rose

Hair – Coat d’arms 223 Horse Tone Chestnut with a wash of Army Painter Strong Tone Ink
Clothing – White with a wash of Citadel Bhaal Red wash
Hair-band – 922 USA Uniform high-lighted with Citadel Scorpion Green.
Feathers – 850 Medium Olive drybrushed with 885 Pastel Green
Arm- and necklaces – 56 Glorious Gold
Echo can be used in my D&D campaign as well as an possessed priestess in a pulp game.
