What! I suddenly have no unpainted minis from Hasslefree!

These two guys were the last ones.

I painted them so they can be used as armed civilians or security guards for 7TV (and, who knows, probably other games, too).

They’ve been assembled but unpainted for far too long (probably bought Kat about 10 years ago by now) and it was about time they got some time on the painting table, together with two Hasslefree-males that I still work on.

Professor Beattie from Hasslefree

I just bought the Pulp Alley skirmish-rules (got them from Statuesque Miniatures in UK) and was fully hooked. Easy to learn and they seem fast paced and fun. What I find really positive is that they could be used for the thirties, modern or SF, as well as fantasy, horror and more. A really versatile set of rules that will see a lot of use in the future. For a good introduction listen to Meeples and Miniatures episode 132, and also see the battle reports on the same blog.

I checked my tin-mountain and found a couple of unpainted pulp-figures that were immediately put on the painting table.

The first finished one is Professor Beattie, sculpted by Warren Beattie, and from Hasslefree Miniatures. A great mini that paints up fast with a very limited palette.

The base comes from Sally 4th and their Terra Bases range. I found these the other day and bought a couple of bags of 25mm bases. I have decided to at least base my pulp-figures on clear bases, as I expect to use those figures on a variety of scenery, from indoors to desert and jungle. With clear bases you don’t get green-flocked bases in cities and such annoying miss-matches. I might go for these fully, we’ll see.

It’s fun to re-visit a ‘period’.

Liralith – a dark elf in 28mm from Hasslefree

This is the HFE005 Liralith Reduox figure from Hasslefree. One of my favourite companies, been with them from the beginning.

I’m not too happy about how this figure turned out, the colour of her clothes and her lips just didn’t turn out the way I hoped. But this is what you’ll get.

Sword – 865 Oily Steel

Hair – 883 Silver Grey

All above washed with Army Painter Dark Tone ink

Spider – 992 Neutral grey washed with Dark Tone and Devlan Mud

Handle – 876 Brown Sand washed with Devlan Mud

I bought a bunch of different dark blues after this. Something to experiment with.

Newton, custodian of all things lost and shiny, from Hasslefree

I think he was an extra x-mas figure I got with an order ages ago. Anyway, it’s from one of my favourite companies, Hasslefree. He’s a really cute little guy, and very easy to paint. Full off character, but tiny - he’s on a 20 mm base. I don’t know why he’s been unpainted for so long.

Familiars - batch 1

Familiars are a wizard’s best friend, and in my D&D campaigns physical representations of familiars have been sorely missing.

Not for much longer. I bought a couple of packs of Reaper familiars to rectify this, and found this and that in the tin- and plastics-mountain.

The first two were very simple paint-jobs. Rabbit and cat from Reaper were painted black, with a very light grey drybrush. Done in a moment. Not much, but they are better than nothing, and anyway a do believe the rabbit will see very limited use anyway.

The small dragon was base coated with Vallejo 968 Flat Green, a black wash, drybrushed 833 German Camouflage Bright Green and a light drybrush of 885 Pastel Green. Eyes red with yellow pupils.

The dog came from Hasslefree, and their range of teenage monster-hunters or whatever. I think he is originally from Armorcast and was retailed for some time through Hasslefree. He is painted black, with a chocolate brown (I think) drybrush followed by a very light drybrush of Vallejo 955 Flat Flesh.
