Painters block seem to have been truly gone

The painting low I had this autumn seem to be gone (for good?), as I have cranked out a lot of minis the last month.
First these gangers for use in our club campaign of Street Wars. They are the Black Cobras gang from the same manufacturer, and has seen two battles so far.
First game. The Black Cobras take on the Mollies, while trying to mug some pesky civilians.
A Mollie lookout

The uncultured and rather racist Devil Outcasts join the fun. For the Black Cobras this turned into a two-front war, which you usually don't win.
The cops stop eating donoughts and make an appearance. A Mollie is arrested, to the general merriment of two players.
The first was, ahem, a learning game for the gang (see above), but the second fight showed which gang of the four in that fight was the mightiest (the last roll of the last turn saw the Black Cobras go from a last place to the first. Truly heroic wasting of a knocked out enemy leader…)
Next we have some savages. The first two are Forest tribe women from Heroes of the Dark Age. Fantastic resin-figures but rather small at around 25 mm.
Then we have two taller heroes from Shadows of Brimstone, made of a horrible resin. In the background a portal from the same game, and a 3D-printed Kraken Idol from EC3D.
Last but not least is this rather diverse bunch. A serving woman from Wizkids, then a 3D-printed penguin from EC3D, a centaur (the best on the market in my opinion) from Heresy Miniatures, a 3D-printed zombie (I don’t remember the make, but I’m not too happy with it. Will have a higher resolution next time) and finally two giant rats from Reaper.
That’s it for now. Got a dozen or so Arabs nearly finished and lots more in the queue, both figures and buildings.

A mixed bag of painted minis

The last batch of minis painted this summer.
It’s a rather varied bunch, and some of them can and will be used in different settings.

Two useful 'heroes' from the Hillbilly Boys box from Black Scorpion. They will see action in Western settings, as well as pulp and even modern. I like this kind of really versatile minis.
A forest-tribe female from Heroes of the Dark Age. She'll be used in my upcoming solo-campaign of Paleo Diet. Just two more to finish and I can start that.
Two useful civilian kids, made by Wizkids, and a zombie, or part of one anyway, from Heresy Miniatures. The kids could also be used in several settings, and the zombie will work equally well in fantasy and modern settings.

Last minis from July – nun, ghoul and Atalanta

The last post of July will be on a couple of different minis finished in the last couple of days.
The nun, from Warlord Games and their Operation Sea Lion – Enemy Agents blister, looks stern but innocent enough… from the front.
But if you look at what she’s doing behind her back… She’ll be perfect in my Vatican-league in Pulp Alley, and will have the “Burst Fire” ability. Yes, I do have a thing for armed nuns…
The ghoul’s from Andy at Heresy Miniatures, and it is a great little mini, as always from Heresy. Gruesome.
Finally the first painted mini from Mythic Battles: Pantheon. Atalanta is one of five heroes in the base box, and a good enough figure. I wasn’t super excited by the mini so she stood half-finished on the painting table quite a long time.

Trolls from Heresy and Reaper (and a cultist)

I really had to paint some ordinary minis to be able to survive another large batch of Conan-figures. A quick rummage in the plastics mountain and I had two suitable and rather big figures.
The Dungeon Troll is sculpted by Andy Foster of Heresy Miniatures and is a fantastic mini. My absolute favourite of the two.
He (yes, it is a ‘he’ – look under the loincloth…) is a 3-part model that needed no cleaning as I couldn’t find any mould-lines! More than unusual in a model this size. I used some green stuff in the gaps between arms and body, but that was it.
A fearsome opponent if you're 28mm tall.
Take advantage of the weak £ and pop over to Andy’s store and get yourself one (or any other mini, for that matter).
This Troll, sculpted by Jason Wiebe, comes from Reaper and their Bones range (you can also get it in metal for four times the price).
It’s a decent sculpt that needed just a little cleaning of mould-lines, but a bit… cartoony. Not really in my taste, but it was easy to paint and could probably smash an adventurer or two.
Finally a cultist from Reaper Bones, you can never have enough cultists… A fast paintjob to have him ready for action.

Ogre with Table from Heresy

He stood there on the painting table. The Daughter complained that he had been there for ages. Nearly finished, just some detailing to do.
A couple of brush-stroke, a layer of varnish and another mini done. I wonder why it took so long…

The Ogre with Table is another smashing ‘mini’ from Heresy Miniatures. Go check what Andy’s got in his store. He’s one of my favourite sculptors (and a very nice chap) and I’m sure you’ll find one, two or many minis that need to be bought.

Hellmites from Heresy

Another pack of uglies from the Return of the Monsters! kickstarter by Heresy Miniatures. These hellmites will come in very handy in our Pulp Alley club-campaign, as they will pop out of the gate that will be central to one of the scenarios.

Terror Grub from Heresy Miniatures

The just painted maggotmen inspired me to do more Heresy stuff, and this Terror Grub fitted with the theme. I wonder if the maggotmen are sort of culinary followers...
It’s a two-piece resin kit, and from experience I do advice you to paint the inside of the mouth before you glue on the front segment with the outer parts of the mouth. Trying to paint the inside with everything assembled was a bit of a pain…
You’ll need a tiny bit of green stuff to hide the gap between the pieces, but for this big a model that is to be expected. A very nice and bubble-free nice kit all in all.
I painted it greenish, gave it purple and red washes and then drybrushed gray green.
Ready to chomp on adventurers in Frostgrave and other fantasy settings.
Obviously!
This is where I got my icky monsters.

Maggotmen from Heresy

Heresy Miniatures is a one-man show where Andy sculpts, makes moulds, casts miniatures and everything else. His specialty is monsters of all sorts and if you’re interested in unusual critters this could be the place to go. He’s got a fair amount of ordinary (sort of) humans, too, if that is your thing.
These maggotmen are good examples of what strange creatures lurk in his web-shop. I got them and a lot of other critters from his Kickstarter, so you can expect to see more from Heresy in the future. Cast in bubble-free resin and… gross.
I tried to figure out what the eating one was chomping on and finally decided that they are coprophages. I guess you don’t want to invite them to lunch and certainly won’t feel inclined to go to one of their dinner parties.

Have a nice meal!

Hellbeast from Heresy

This demonic doggie is “Hellbeast (looking left)” from Heresy Miniatures. Great mini, but a lot of work with green stuff because it comes in seven pieces; torso, 4 legs, head and jaw. If you’re not discouraged by that then it really looks cool.

I was rather discouraged, as green-stuffing isn’t my strongest skill, but the other month I mined the tin-mountain for a lot of figs that I had put together but not green-stuffed. They tend to collect in the mountain…  I spent a couple of evenings kneading green-stuff and silently cursing... You have seen some of them painted already, and more will come in the next couple of weeks. Practice makes better, I guess, and I curse less now…
Nice doggie!
Colours used:
Skin: Vallejo 859 Black Red with a black wash
Claws, teeth and spines: Vallejo Game Colour Bone White with a wash of Citadel Devlan Mud
Mouth and tongue: Citadel Scab Red with a highlight of Citadel Blood Red.
Eyes: Blood Red
Chain: Citadel Chainmail with wash of Devlan Mud.

Filthy Scrote the Jailer from Heresy

Another gentleman to man the dungeons, this time “Filthy Scrote the Jailer” from Heresy, also discontinued it seems. Picked him up from the tin-mountain, and had to pin his hands and head in place.
Painted with Vallejo paints unless noted.
Undercoated white with a black wash – excellent to find those mould-lines that ruins the work later on…
Skin – 955 Flat Flesh
Vest – Citadel Foundation Gretchin Green
Trousers – 821 German Camo Beige
Gloves and shoes – 876 Brown Sand
Rope – 847 Dark Sand
Plate and cup – Citadel Chainmail
Cheese – 912 Tan Yellow
Bread - 912 Tan Yellow
Keys – 865 Oily Steel
Hair – 983 Flat Earth
Everything got a wash of Devlan mud, the hair was drybrushed with 843 Cork Brown and a final coat of matte varnish.
